The OSHA’s new confined space standard for construction was issued on May 4th, 2015 and was scheduled to go into effect on August 3rd, 2015. However, the OSHA is postponing full enforcement for 60 days in response to requests from employers for additional time to train employees and to procure required safety equipment. Full enforcement is now scheduled to begin on October 2nd, 2015.
During this delay, the OSHA will not issue citations to employers who are making “good faith efforts to comply” with the requirements of the standard. Good faith efforts to comply include:
- Scheduling training for employees as required by the new standard.
- Ordering the required equipment.
- Educating employees about confined space hazards and taking steps to protect them.
If you have questions or concerns regarding the new construction confined space standard, or would like to schedule training, please contact our training department at (832) 200-0988.
